There is still a feeling amongst some people that Paralympic sport is a bit of a consolation for people with a disability. I hope that view has started to disappear over the last decade – but I do come across it as an attitude.
I have just spent the afternoon at the Opening ceremony and games for the 2010 Wheelchair Basketball Championships being held in Birmingham. There are 10 more days of competition. If you can get to the NIA at Birmingham to see a game or two I would urge
you to do so. This is not some consolation prize. This is full on sport. It has passion and aggression in just the right amounts to make it a great event. This is not for the feint hearted. Get along and judge for yourself.
