Another opportunity to engage in the sport debate
Wednesday 2 July 2014, 9.00 -10.30am with breakfast available from 8.30am
Hosted by Deloitte, 2 New Street Square, London EC4A 3BZ
With the World Cup in full flow in July, the Commonwealth Games around the corner, and the Tour de France about to sweep through England, we’re considering the role of sport in improving the places where we live.
Sport can promote community inclusion by bringing together people from different backgrounds, increasing levels of trust, and encouraging leadership and volunteering. There are also direct benefits for individuals in terms of health, well-being and social skills. But are we making the most of these sports-inspired initiatives? And what can be done to understand their social impact and share lessons?
At this event, we will discuss what sport can achieve in meeting social outcomes in order to change lives and also explore the role of charities and funders—including philanthropists, local authority commissioners and grant-making organisations—in achieving these objective.
Speakers include:
Adrian Turner, Olympic swimmer, Founder and Director of Total Swimming that delivers Make a Splash, one of the Mayor’s sports legacy programmes that brings mobile swimming pools to locations across London;
Richard Joyce, National StreetChance Operations Manager, Cricket Foundation;
Andy Reed OBE, Chair, Sport and Recreation Alliance;
Rt Hon Richard Caborn, former Minister of Sport and Trustee of the Football Foundation.
This breakfast seminar is kindly hosted by Deloitte’s Charities and Not for Profit Group and will be chaired by Angela Kail, Head of Funder team at NPC.
