First up today a meeting with Interserve – an organisation I have travelled with in Central Asia to see the work carried out in some of the poorest parts of the world.
I am often asked as a former MP who I have met and who was the most famous or most impressive. Clearly being in the presence of world leaders (even at the back of the room) I have seen all sorts of ‘impressive’ people. However, I always explain that the single person I would single out is an Interserve missionary who had given up her life as a Nurse in the UK to serve the homeless of Bishkek. I saw treating and washing the feet of drunk, broken homeless men in the most appalling conditions. She did it with love and without questioning.
Margaret will always remain my own Mother Theresa. Nobody will know her name but she is far more impressive than so many of the other celebrities / leaders I have ever met!
